Lost & Found Pets

Since Xmas/New Year there has been a steady stream of dogs and cats lost and found in Jacobs Well . Most are not microchipped. People with lost/found animals should contact the Stapylton Pound on 3807 3782.

Animals have left home without their owners due to open gates, fear of storms, being undesexed, theft and boredom/loneliness. The most reliable means of animal recovery is permanent identification by microchipping. Queensland does not yet have compulsory microchipping of all dogs and cats.

This matter has recently been a hot topic in animal welfare and political circles.

What is a microchip?
A microchip is a tiny transponder, about the size of a grain of rice that is encoded with a unique identification number. It is a permanent and tamperproof method that cannot be lost.

How is the microchip put into my pet?
The standard site for placement is the subcutaneous tissue between the shoulder blades. The procedure is fast, safe, and appears to be relatively pain-free in most pets. Some clients will choose to have the microchip implanted while their pet is undergoing general anaesthetic, such as during desexing.

Is there anything I have to do?
Microchip registration requires contact information. If you move or change your contact information, be sure to update your pet’s microchip information. How is the microchip detected?
The microchip can be ‘read’ with a microchip scanner, which detects the specific electronic code embedded in the chip, and displays the identification number on the scanner’s screen.

Animal Recovery
We use Allflex ISO compliant microchips which have lifetime registration on the Royal Agricultural Society database. The registry is an Australasian-wide database with a 24 hours information service to Animal Welfare Agencies including pounds and vets.

Come in for our Autumn Microchip Special of $28.20 per animal.
